Special Interests

Thomas Ylioja is a licensed social worker with several years of healthcare practice and research experience. His clinical and research expertise is working with individuals who use tobacco and other substances to make healthy lifestyle changes, with an emphasis on patient groups with health disparities or social disadvantage. He collaborates nationally with researchers, clinicians, and states to build strong connections between health systems and the tobacco quitline, and to enhance the tobacco treatment patients receive at the bedside and in the clinic. At Health Initiatives, he is responsible for clinical development, health coach training, and quality improvement programs.
