Finding a Way to Prevent Chronic Infection in Cystic Fibrosis


National Jewish Health immunology researcher Brian Day, PhD explains how the immune systems protects the lungs and how researchers may have found a way to prevent chronic infection and inflammation in people with cystic fibrosis.

The immune system is very important in keeping your lung from being chronically infected, which actually occurs in a number of diseases, most importantly in cystic fibrosis.

In CF our lab has found that the thiocyanate system is defective and we’re hopeful that we can actually create analogs of this thiocyanate molecule that might be very useful in preventing the chronic infection and inflammation that is associated with their short lifespan.
